INTRODUCTION

Below are comprehensive diagrams of Kyusho Points courtesy of

Before I commence on writing anything to do with this amazing aspect of the martial arts I would like to acknowledge the fantastic work and tireless pursuit of knowledge shown by Grand Master George Dillman and the many masters of Dillman Karate International several of whom opened the eyes of myself and my colleagues both as students and instructors of what we thought were formidable martial arts , even though we are not members of D.K.I these masters in the guise of Jack Hogan, Leon Jay, Evan Pantazi and Jim Corn opened up and took us in and we would like to  acknowledge that without their constant input and support we would not have made the huge leaps forward that we have as such much of the information gathered in these pages comes as a direct result of these fine martial artists.
Domo Arigato, Sensei Ray Sheerin.

This section of the Academies site is dedicated to what has always been a fascinating yet scientific study in anatomy and physiology with particular regard to the many weaknesses of the human body , for many martial arts practitioners these weaknesses are simply either skeletal or muscular not that this is a bad thing for these are very important aspects of martial arts training and must continue to be studied for without a working knowledge of the basics of anatomy and physiology advanced studies in to the pressure points of the human body would be infinitely more difficult.

Pressure points lie along lines in the body known as meridians , there are 14 of these 12 of which are bilateral(found on both left and right sides of the body) and another two of which run down the bodies centerline. Each meridian corresponds to a specific organ within the body , they are: Spleen, Stomach, Liver , Large intestine, Bladder, Gall Bladder, Kidney , Heart, Small Intestine, Liver, Triple Warmer, and Pericardium, then there are the Governor vessel which runs down the spine and the conception vessel which runs down the center of the front of the body and is the source of Ki.

It is generally accepted that a pressure point is a point in the body at which energy can most effectively be transmitted in to a nerve, more often than not it is a place where there is a branch of a nerve connecting two or more pathways or a nerve plexus where major nerves join together meaning that when one of these areas are stimulated either by rubbing or striking a pain signal registers on more than one pathway which is why Kyusho-Jitsu can be so effective , the pain signal on reaching the brain is amplified by the multiple nerves stimulated, meaning less power is required to cause pain or dysfunction in an adversary.

The knowledge of  pressure points have been in use for around 2000 years by traditional Chinese medicine particularly in regard to acupuncture , thus the theories of acupuncture can provide us with an invaluable source of knowledge in how to utilize Kyusho-jitsu, The acupuncturist uses pressure points as gates at which the flow of life energy or Ki can be manipulated so as to restore a healthy balance in the body helping to overcome illness and ease pain , we as martial artists reverse the role and use these gates as points at which to disrupt the flow of Ki in order that we may cause dysfunction in the body.

Traditional Chinese Medicine was developed long before modern science in a country which has a strong philosophical cosmology therefore many things were taken on faith as observations were made about issues which man could not obviously explain , perhaps one of the biggest of these issues is Ki or Chi the vital life force which courses through all living things both sentient and insentient , Ki cannot be touched nor reproduced yet without it life cannot survive, yet modern science has failed to come up with a tangible explanation for Ki even though we all know it exists and many people demonstrate great abilities utilizing Ki, Bearing this in mind acupuncture as the main healing system of T.C.M  also utilizes various other ideologies based on eastern philosophy which itself is based on unity or the one which in turn becomes duality or yin and yang which again in turn generates the five fundamental elements , fire , metal, wood, earth, water. all of which are present in Kyusho-Jitsu again as acupuncture uses the points to heal so to does it use the elements as each of these elements again equate to the organs of the body as well as to Yin and Yang as follows.

Lung

Yin

Element
Metal
Large Intestine Yang Element Metal
Stomach Yang Element Earth
Spleen Yin Element Earth
Heart Yin Element Fire
Small Intestine Yang Element Fire
Pericardium Yin Element Fire
TripleWarmer Yang Element Fire
Bladder Yang Element Water
Kidney Yin Element Water
Gall Bladder Yang Element Wood
Liver Yin Element Wood
Conception Vessel Yin with all yin meridians related to it
Governor Vessel Yang with all yang meridians related to it

As acupuncture uses these elements within the cycle of creation each element is responsible for generating another element to create the full cycle as such ; Fire generates Earth, Earth generates Metal, Metal generates Water, Water generates Wood and to complete the cycle Wood generates Fire, if we switch tables now and relate this to Kyusho-Jitsu we as martial artists don't wish to initially heal our adversaries but cause them pain and discomfort as such we turn the cycle of creation around and use the cycle of destruction as such: Fire melts Metal, Metal chops Wood, Wood penetrates the Earth, Earth obstructs Water and Water quenches Fire therefore if we attack certain Points in the sequential nature of the cycle of destruction as it relates to the meridians and there relationship with the organs of the body we can relatively easily cause degrees of dysfunction according to the points struck.

Please go on to page two where we will go over perhaps what is the most important aspect of the practice of Kyusho-Jitsu.
